AQUACULTURE GHANA AWARDS 2024 The Aquaculture Ghana Awards nominations are now open until 30th April, 2024. The finalists will be announced on 15th May, 2024. The categories for nomination are:

Category Description Entry Criteria
Aquaculture innovation and technology Award This category focuses on an individual or company that has an innovative solution that has made a huge contribution to processing, product development, fish health, biosecurity, sustainability, production performance, and protecting the ecosystem This can be demonstrated through the use of one of the following:
  • Deploying new or existing technology
  • Fish Farming practices
  • Processing practices
  • Employee training
Aquaculture Sustainability Award This category recognizes companies' or individuals' initiatives or business practices that support long-term economic growth without negatively impacting cultural, social, and environmental aspects of the community. It covers the following areas:
  • Feed
  • Waste management
  • Energy management
  • Joint resource management
  • Treatment plan
  • Interactions with wild fish stock
Aquaculture Input Supplier of the year This category recognizes the effort of any input supplier who has shown commitment to supplying quality input and products to enhance the growth and sustainability of Ghana’s Aquaculture industry. Entry requirement:
  • Supplier of aquaculture products
  • Supplier aquaculture inputs
  • Supplier of aquaculture services
Aquaculture Marketer of the year This award recognizes an individual or a company in Ghana’s aquaculture sector with very high brand visibility as far as fish marketing is concerned. Requirement:
  • Known brand within the aquaculture sector
  • Brand must have GSA and FDA approval
  • Brand should be used by aquaculture industry players
Outstanding Contributor to the aquaculture industry in Ghana This award recognizes the role of an individual, company, and agency in developing Ghana’s aquaculture sector. The efforts of the contributor should be known by the aquaculture industry players. The product or service provided should be adopted by industry players.
Aquaculture Farm of the year (Cage and Pond) This award is given to a licensed commercial fish farm with a sustainable business model. The fish farm must use either cage or pond as the production medium with a minimum production capacity of 1000 and 500 mt per annum for cage and pond production respectively. Requirement:
  • Evidence of production system
  • Evidence of production output
  • Must have stringent biosecurity protocol at farm
  • Fish product should be available on the market
Commercial Fish Hatchery of the year This award is given to a licensed commercial hatchery with a sustainable business model. The Hatchery should have a minimum production capacity of 12 million fingerlings( Catfish or tilapia) Requirement:
  • Evidence of stringent biosecurity protocol at the hatchery
  • Evidence of all statutory permits
  • Evidence of producing approved fish strain
Outstanding Fish Health business of the year This award recognizes the role of a licensed fish health business in Ghana’s aquaculture sector. The business must prove evidence of a solution or product that is approved by authorities and patronized by fish farmers in Ghana. Requirement:
  • Evidence of product or service deployed in the aquaculture sector
  • The product or service should be approved by GSA or FDA
Outstanding Fish Feed Company of the year This award recognizes the role of a licensed commercial fish feed business in Ghana. The business should be a known brand with quality fish feed for fish farmers. Requirement:
  • The fish feed should be produced in Ghana
  • Some of the raw materials should be sourced from Ghana
  • The fish feed should be used by farmers in Ghana
  • The feed should be approved by FDA and GSA
Emerging Fish Feed Company of the year This award recognizes the role of a licensed commercial fish feed business in Ghana with less than 10 years in operation. The business should be a known brand with quality fish feed for fish farmers. Requirement:
  • The fish feed should be produced in Ghana
  • Some of the raw materials should be sourced from Ghana
  • The fish feed should be used by farmers in Ghana
  • The feed should be approved by FDA and GSA
Aquaculture researcher of the year This award recognizes the role of research in transforming Ghana’s aquaculture. The research must be published in a recognized journal and the findings should have been adopted by the aquaculture industry and with a significant impact. Requirement:
  • Research should be working with a recognize public or private research institution
  • Should publish not less than 3 research papers during the year
Rising Star of aquaculture industry This category celebrates the role of under 40s aquaculture industry employees or professionals. This award celebrates the talents of outstanding young employees or apprentices of the industry and it encourages them to become future aquaculture industry leaders. Requirement:
  • Under 35 with innovative solution that is recognize by employee and or industry
  • Nominee should be recommended by employer or industry player
  • Solution or product designed should have the potential to contribute to the aquaculture sector
Unsung Hero Award This category recognizes individuals who have contributed immensely behind the scenes to find solutions to a key challenge in Ghana’s aquaculture industry. Requirement, Any of the following:
  • Evidence of solution implemented or been implemented
  • Solution should be a product or service delivered to the aquaculture industry
Collaboration Awards This award celebrates initiatives, where companies, agencies, and or academic institutions decide to work together to find a solution to a key challenge in the aquaculture industry. Requirement:
  • Evidence of collaboration between to stakeholders
  • There should be evidence of the benefit of collaboration before and after
Corporate Social Responsibility Award This award focuses on an individual, company, or organization that has a strong industry relationship with the community in which they operate, with particular attention on providing local services or support to any community in Ghana. Requirement:
  • Evidence of CSR activity in any part of Ghana
  • Documentary evidence of activity carried in the host community
Overall Aquaculture Company of the year This award recognizes sustainable practice, community involvement, innovation, technology, staff welfare, quality product, product promotion, and business performance. Requirement:
  • Evidence of innovation
  • Evidence of sustainability
  • Evidence of CSR initiative in host community
  • Evidence of product availability and visibility
Start Up Award This award focuses on a start-up with less than 3 years in operation and has identified a market gap to launch a new business. Should be able to showcase how innovation and leadership have contributed to the growth of their business. Requirement:
  • Evidence of been under 35s
  • Evidence of product or service provided to the aquaculture industry
  • Evidence of innovation and growth potential
Female Aquapreneur of the year This award recognizes the outstanding female in the aquaculture sector Requirement:
  • Evidence of viable business within the aquaculture industry of Ghana
  • Ability to show case product or service rendered to customers
Aquaculture Journalist of the year This award recognizes any journalist who has done transformative stories on the aquaculture industry of Ghana. Requirement:
  • Must work with a recognize media institution
  • Must publish not less than 4 news item between April 2023 to March 2024 on Aquaculture in Ghana
  • The publication either be print, online or video
